Mitragyna Speciosa is an evergreen tree that produces an exceptional curative product known as Kratom. It belongs to the Rubiaceae family and it’s indigenous to Thailand and Indonesia. You can find a variety of strains growing freely in the forests of Southeast Asia.
The natives have used Kratom in folk medicine since ancient times. However, the power of Kratom and its amazing benefits is no secret. People throughout the entire world love to use it.
Back in the day, people would pluck the leaves straight off of the tree and chew on it to acquire the effects. Nowadays, we have more innovative ways to consume Kratom. The most common products are Kratom Powder or Liquid Kratom. While Kratom powder is the more popular choice, there are a lot of users who prefer the liquid form.
In this article, we are going to help you learn everything you need to know about liquid Kratom. We will talk about what it is, how it works, why people like to use it, and more! By the end of this, you’ll be an expert!
What is Liquid Kratom?
At a very basic level, liquid Kratom is merely Kratom in liquid form. This refers to several products made with different Kratom strains.
The main difference between powder and liquid is that liquid Kratom typically indicates an extract, while powder is just the dried, raw plant material. Although, you can find Kratom extract in powder form.
Kratom extracts undergo an alkaloid extraction process that makes them much more potent than the raw powder. So, you can take a much smaller serving and still get very advanced effects.
Some manufacturers will mix in other additives to enhance the flavor or drinking experience of the extract. It’s also important to note that Liquid Kratom Extracts are usually more expensive than Kratom powder.
Note: We strongly recommend using Kratom extracts in moderation. Frequent Kratom use will cause you to develop a tolerance, and extracts build your tolerance even faster.
Managing your Kratom tolerance is remarkably important. Be mindful!
4 Types of Liquid Kratom Products
If you’re interested in trying liquid Kratom, the first thing you should do is decide which product you want to use. There are several different types, and we’re going to briefly discuss the most common ones.
Liquid Kratom Extract
Kratom extract is the first product that comes to mind when hearing “liquid Kratom”.
Extracts undergo an extensive extraction process to isolate the main alkaloids (Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine). The result of this process is an extremely concentrated liquid extract.
Liquid extracts are generally made from Maeng Da Kratom strains - ours at Happy Hippo is made from our #1 best-selling strain, Hyper Hippo (Green Maeng Da).
Happy Hippo’s Liquid Kratom Extract Details:
- 20x potency, contains about 135mg of high-quality Green Maeng Da alkaloids
- Awesome flavors available! Coffee, Pina Colada, Razzleberry, or unflavored
- 12mL vial, 0.34mL dropper included
Trust me, you won’t find a better liquid Kratom extract on the market. It totally beats the gas station favorite, MIT45 Liquid Kratom in potency.
Plus, customers have said our product is comparable to the OPMS Liquid Kratom Extract (but we think it’s even better!).
Kratom Shots
Kratom shots are easily the most convenient type of liquid Kratom. You may have seen them sold at your local gas station or smoke shop.
Essentially, it’s Kratom extract combined with other energy-enhancing ingredients and flavoring. Think of the infamous “5-hour energy shot” - it’s a similar concept. They’re intended to be a quick, easy dose of Kratom for the on-the-go user.
At Happy Hippo, we have two different types of Kratom shots available (both are best-sellers):
Sour Apple Kratom Shot Details:
- 10mL bottle
- Extracted with organic non-GMO ethanol
- 60mg of Kratom Extract per bottle
If you compare our Sour Apple Kratom Shot to Pop Kratom’s K-Shot, you’ll notice that ours is slightly more potent.
Kratom Energy Shot Details:
- Sugar-free and caffeine-free, all natural flavoring
- Available in 6 fruity flavors! Blue Razzle, Cherry PomPom, Berry PomPom, Pink Lemon Drop, Grapelicious, and Fruit Punch Party.
- Equivalent to 5 grams of plain leaf Kratom
Kratom Tinctures
Tinctures are very similar to extracts, but they have a slightly different extraction process. Kratom tinctures are made by soaking Kratom leaves (or powder) in an ethanol based mixture. The alcohol slowly absorbs the properties of the alkaloids and all of the leftover plant matter is strained out.
The consistency of a tincture is usually thicker than extract, almost like syrup.
Kratom Tea
Kratom Tea doesn’t start out in liquid form, but it does involve using powder to create a tea beverage. Many people will brew up big pots of Kratom Tea to enjoy hot or iced.
The best part about Kratom Tea is that you can choose which strain you want to make it with. You’re in control! Plus, it’s easy (and fun) to make at home. All you need is Kratom powder and water!
What Does Liquid Kratom Do?
Kratom is rumored to provide great benefits, and liquid Kratom is no different. The benefits you experience are dependent on a few factors: serving size and the product or specific strain that you’re using.
Here is a list of effects that Kratom may produce:
- Energy
- Motivation
- Relaxation
- Discomfort Relief
- Restful Sleep
- Positive well-being
- Pro-social attitude
- Mental focus
Is Liquid Kratom Safe?
Despite the lack of clinical studies, Kratom has been used for hundreds of years throughout Southeast Asia. When used responsibly, Kratom is considered safe.
However, some people do experience minor side-effects when using Kratom. It usually happens after taking too large of a serving. Some side-effects may include nausea, headaches, constipation, and irritability.
Remember: Always use Kratom responsibly.
Understanding Kratom Extract Potency
Kratom extract is not your average Kratom. It is significantly stronger due to the high concentration of alkaloids suspended in the liquid.
Sometimes Kratom extracts will be 10x, 15x, or 20x stronger than Kratom Powder! What does that mean? Let’s break it down in an example.
If you’re looking at a liquid Kratom extract product with a potency of 10x, it’s telling you that there is 10-times the alkaloid content in 1 gram of extract as compared to 1 gram of Kratom powder.
According to an article published by Santa Monica College (differentiating between Kratom extracts and powder):
"Many extracts you see available come with a ratio inscribed on the packaging. This ratio often refers to the degree of strength. If you see a 2x or 2.1 ratio on a package, it means that this extract is twice as potent as the powder."
Moral of the story - please be cautious with Kratom extracts. Carefully read the packaging before use.
Liquid Kratom vs Kratom Powder
There are tons of Kratom products on the market nowadays. You may be wondering, “How do I know which product is better?”.
Well, neither is essentially “better” than the other. It’s more about your personal preferences.
You don’t want to take a Kratom extract if you’re trying to relax before bedtime. And likewise, you don’t want to take a super Slow (Relaxing) strain before going to the gym.
So, before purchasing, you should ask yourself some questions…
What are you using Kratom for?
How much money are you willing to spend?
Do you want something convenient?
Do you want a large quantity or a small quantity?
How potent do you want the Kratom to be?
After that, you should have a better understanding of what you’re looking for. And from there, a good way to narrow down your options is to make a pros and cons list for each product.
Kratom Extract & Energy Shots | Pros and Cons List
Pros:
- Potent and fast-acting
- On-the-go convenience
- Fantastic boost in energy and productivity

- Extracts increase your Kratom tolerance much quicker than powder
- Depending on the vendor you purchase from, some Kratom extracts are adulterated with unnecessary chemicals
- Can become expensive if used daily
Kratom Powder | Pros and Cons List

- Available in dozens of different strains, giving you the power to take full advantage of all of the benefits that Kratom can provide
